UNEXISTANT is first of all a collection of identities generated by the algorithmic operations of the reCAPTCHA security system, a series of letters to be copied to distinguish humans from robots.

Since 2013, Alec De Busschère has been collecting theses reCAPTCHA identities, initially devoid of any real existence (“unexistant” is a word that does not exist). He then turns them into fictional characters and uses their names as the titles of paintings. For each painted portrait, the artist creates a biography or even assigns it a profile on a social network.
