Imusai Robert Florence Purvin
Maison Grégoire, Brussels, 2018

Paintings, aluminium structures, vinyl record, voice, algorithm
Fascinated by the multiple projections allowed by web identities and aliases, Alec De Busschère has gathered a list of fictitious names generated by reCAPTCHAs, the challenge-response tests used on the web to determine whether or not the user is human.
These were in turn the starting point of the paintings which he recently developed, and can be apprehended as both virtual characters and spaces of projection. For this exhibition, the framework of Maison Grégoire and the virtual existence of four characters with names derived from his reCAPTCHA list are integrated as new elements in his “Unexistant” project begun in 2013. Of the three principles of dramatic construction, only unity of place is upheld in these works, while the unity of time and action are not.
The characters Imusai Make, Florence Guelive, Robert Fivith and Purvin But are a starting point for texts / dialogues written by 4 authors and interpreted by 4 actors, whom we would like to thank: Philippe Bertels, Corinne Bertrand, Fabrice Boutique, Jean-François Brion, Fanny Desmares, Laurent de Sutter, Camille Lancelin, Peter Russell.
The outcome of this polyphonic composition is very distinctive in character and will be made available to visitors in varying configurations, allowing them different immersive experiences in fictional spaces.
This exhibition is part of the artistic programme of Bn PROJECTS, a platform for creation and experimentation, curatorial and artistic, founded in June 2008 on the initiative of Emmanuel Lambion, with Heidi Ballet and Christophe Floré. Since 2008, Bn PROJECTS has been running Maison Grégoire, an independent art centre founded in 1995 on the initiative of the artist Philippe Terrier-Hermann and Thomas Simon, located in a listed modernist house built in 1933 by the Belgian architect Henry Van De Velde in the residential neighbourhood of the Observatoire in Uccle (Brussels).
Curator: Emmanuel Lambion
